The Jojk represents one of the oldest and most original forms of music in Europe. The melody and text are joined together forming a style of music that only the Sami people know and which only their special singing technique masters. Most important is the melody, a Jojk can be with or without lyrics. To sing a Jojk is to express ones memories, the stories and impressions of nature, people and animals. It also calms the reindeer and keeps the wolves away. Mostly, however, the Sami jojk at home or out in the open - it is a step into another world.
